TikTok, an app designed to share short videos, has become a force to be reckoned with. It’s currently available in over 160 countries and has around 121.5 million American users. Brands love TikTok for its easy accessibility—even the smallest businesses have an opportunity to be seen and heard with or without marketing budgets.

Your brand probably already knows that harnessing the power of TikTok and social media is the right path to reach a massive audience. The TikTok algorithm poses a challenge for businesses, though. Going viral is not always easy to achieve without a good understanding of what the algorithm looks for and what users want to see. Quality content plays a part in getting more views, but that’s not all that counts.

One of the most important factors in increasing the visibility of your videos is the timing of when you post them. By strategically choosing when to upload your content, you can significantly increase the chances of your video being noticed.

Posting on TikTok: Timing Matters

Although it might seem like a minor change, altering the timing of your uploads can make a difference on TikTok. Certain demographics are more likely to be on the platform at different times of the day, and even this popular platform has days and hours that tend to lull. For example, you may notice:

-An uptick in audiences under 18 on days without school or after school lets out (around 3:00 p.m. in the U.S.)
-An increase in working-age audience members during the evening, such as after dinner or before bed (usually 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in your respective time zone).

Another thing to keep in mind is that TikTok’s algorithm sends personalized content to users. It also places video suggestions on the “For You” page, where users can discover new content. The content on this page isn’t normally very old, but older videos sometimes do pop up. What that tells you is that you need to post at the right time and have a steady stream of content to make the most of the platform.

How can you decide how often to post and when? TikTok specifically recommends posting one to four times daily. To know when, you need to think about your audience’s time zone and other factors that may affect when your audience comes online, such as normal working hours or days off for holidays or weekends.

Choosing Your Upload Times

There will be some trial and error as you put together your posting schedule on TikTok. However, if you remain consistent and try at least some of the following posting times, you should see your audience grow.

Based on a study by Hootsuite, the best times to post each day include the following:
-Monday at 10:00 p.m. PST
-Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. PST
-Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. PST
-Thursday at 7:00 p.m. PST
-Friday at 4:00 p.m. PST
-Saturday at 11:00 a.m. PST
-Sunday at 4:00 p.m. PST

To make the most of TikTok, consider posting at least once at the time listed above regardless of your industry.

What Time You Should Post Based on Your Industry

Once you get used to posting to TikTok regularly at set weekly times, choose one or two additional times to post based on your industry. For instance, SocialPilot determined that individual industries can benefit from posting at the following times:

Restaurants: Monday through Thursday between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. based on your timezone. Why? People tend to eat out in the evenings and on the weekends, so posting at these times gives you time to reach an audience making dinner plans.

Artists: Post during local lunch hours, which usually span from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. You can try posting again late in the evening, around 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Why these times? You’ll catch people scrolling on their lunch breaks as well as those looking at TikTok before bed.

Real estate agents: Try reaching your target audience between Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Househunters may be looking for homes in the early morning so they have time to view them after work.

These are just a few examples of how posting times could vary by industry. Try posting based on daily timelines, industry timelines, and a self-imposed timeline to find the right posting schedule for your business. Then, stick to it consistently, and you should see an improvement in your TikTok views and conversions.

Brands are drawn to TikTok because of its accessibility, allowing even the smallest businesses to gain visibility regardless of their marketing budgets. While quality content is essential for attracting views, timing is also a critical factor. By strategically posting your videos at optimal times, you can greatly enhance their chances of being noticed.
